How it works

A standard modular brick with mortar covers about 7 bricks per square foot of wall. Multiply the wall area by that rate and add a waste percentage for cuts and breakage.

Formula

Bricks = ⌈Wall area × bricks per sq ft × (1 + waste%)⌉

Frequently asked questions

How many bricks per square foot?

About 7 standard modular bricks per square foot of wall face, including the mortar joints.

How many bricks to build a wall?

Multiply the wall length by height for area, then by ~7 bricks per square foot. A 20 × 8 ft wall needs roughly 1,230 bricks with waste.

How much mortar do I need?

Plan on about 7 bags of mortar per 1,000 bricks for a standard single-brick wall.
